Season 1: Episode 1: The Break Out Attempt

Bosco and Mercy are your typical house pets, they love people around and love the attention. However things are not the same for Bosco and Mercy all the time. Bosco gets to go outside and Mercy does not. We seem to think that this bothers Mercy a lot since he is from the streets origionally and now he is stuck inside the house or prison as he may think of it sometimes.

Everyday Mercy watches Bosco go out and come in, watches from the windows as to the best ways to get outside and where to go once out. He has had a lot of time to plot and think out a plan of escape. I do not know if Bosco is part of the plan or just a pawn in the big picture.

No Mercy does not have a blue print tattooed on his body (would be hard to see with the fur) but maybe Mercy draws out scenarios with his food or maps out idea with treats? We all know Mercy is a smart guy and would plan things out to the fullest. I mean he is alone a lot with time to plan out things and try new angles.

With spring in the air and the weather heating up the time was coming for Mercy to make his break, a chance at freedom, to see how the other pets live running in the open air. Since humans are a finicky bunch they do not like being too warm inside when the warmth is out side. The means open windows and Mercy knew this. He also knew that one of the windows in the house did not have a screen. A minor overlook by the people who live in the house since the bathroom window is rarely open.

Mercy has been sleeping a lot in the bathroom over the last month or so and we just figured that it was due to being kicked out of the bedroom with some new bedding on the bed. Boy did he fool everyone. No he was actually monitoring window statues, when it was opened and closed and how much foot traffic went through there.

As mentioned already it is hard to say if Bosco was in on it but everything seems to say that he was even if he did not know. Here is a recount of how the break out attempt went just this past Sunday.

Sunday, May 7th: Sun is shining and the temperature is rising in the house. Windows are slowly being opened. The humans, Michael and Katie announce they are going to take Bosco on a long walk around the Rotary down by the water.

Mercy gets Bosco alone and convinces him to get the humans to let him go swimming. The reason is simple, the water is salt water and odds are they when they get back they will throw Bosco in the shower to wash off the salt. All part of the plan in Mercy's head. So the walk happens and Bosco does his best to get the humans to let him get in the water. He had a blast chasing a ball and swimming

.

Back at the house Mercy lies in wait for the big chance. Only a matter of time before he is back on the streets where he is the boss. The door opens and the gang is back, Bosco running around like the big dope he is getting everything wet. Quickly he is run up to the bathroom and the shower is on. It is on long enough to create some steam and heat up the tiny bathroom even more. All part of the plan.

Michael, to let some air in opens the door to freedom for the kitty. An open window with no screen. Happy day is here! Then as Mercy calculated the next step was done for him. The wet towels from drying off Bosco were draped out the open window to let them dry. Could this be any easier for Mercy, he was getting pretty high on his excellent planning.

So everything died down, the TV was on, Bosco was napping and it seemed like a good time to make a break for it. Sadly Mercy also decided to take one last nap before hitting the outside world. A chance he will look back on and shake his head.

Around dinner time it was time for Mercy to finally go for it. He was in the window, looking out at the world and ready to cross the brink

.

Sadly for Mercy he did not count on the human tummy and the need to BBQ dinner. For underneath the window was Michael BBQ'ing and he looked up and there was Mercy caught in the spotlights!! Word spread to Katie fast and the window was closed. Chance lost! Game over!

Mercy has been sentenced to life with Bosco in the house with possible yard priveleges for good behaviour.

The motto of this tale, take the chance when it is there because you don't know when it will come again.
